“A goal without a plan is just a wish.” Antoine de Saint-Exupèry
You may have seen or heard this quote before, and it is so true. On Day 7, you spent time figuring out your seven to ten big goals for the year. They will remain just a wish until you create a plan to implement real change in your life - each and every day. You need to create new habits and routines that will ensure you meet your goals.
Your First Step - Identify what you need to do differently - more, better, less - and identify what you may need to eliminate to achieve each goal. Knowing your why behind your goal as we discussed on Day 9 is crucial in doing things less or eliminating them.
Your Second Step - Narrow down your improved or new actions to a daily, weekly, monthly time frame. See below for an example of how you can break it down.
Goal | Daily | Weekly | Monthly |
Read 36 books on leadership development and/or personal development | Read 60 minutes and/or two chapters each morning | Each Monday, identify the book to read for the week | On the last Friday of the previous month, identify and prioritize the 3 books to read for the month |
By taking a goal and chunking it down, even if it is a stretch goal, it can be achieved if you take it one day at a time.
Your Third Step - Implement
Answer these important questions: Where and How are you going to track your progress?
What’s the planner, calendar, or reminder system that will ensure you complete your daily, weekly, and monthly actions to achieve your goals?
There are countless options for calendars, planning, and tracking. Depending on your goal, you may need just a simple reminder. Other goals may require more planning and tracking. It’s my belief that we all require a little something different.
