Unlike motivation, inspiration is internal - how we feel. When someone or something inspires us, it’s because we have experienced an emotion. We all know that having goals is a first step, but you must also know why you need to accomplish the goal. You will stay inspired to achieve the goal if you also connect with how you will feel when it is achieved.
If you’ve been participating in the past eight days of our 10 Days to Your Best Year Ever program, you’re already in a good place to help find your inspiration to achieve your goals. One of the best ways to get inspired is to connect your goals to your personal values. When your goals tie in to who you are as a person, you can see how meeting that goal will fit into the overall picture of your life.
Surrounding yourself with positivity can help keep the inspiration flowing. Cultivate a positive mindset, spend time with positive people, and read inspirational books or articles that uplift and encourage.
Create a vision board to have a physical reminder of how you want to feel
Tape inspirational quotes on your mirror
Take some quiet time to yourself to clear your mind
Get a little exercise to energize yourself
Listen to your favorite songs
If you find yourself stuck in a rut, try something new. You’ll be surprised by how just visiting a new place can give you new ideas and energize you.
When you’re really struggling with inspiration, it’s time to sit down and have a good thinking session. Find a quiet place and consider what the obstacles are that are keeping you from being inspired to meet your goals.
Maybe you’re feeling tired or overwhelmed or even afraid. How can you remove these mental blocks?
If you’re feeling too tired to work on your goals, consider areas of your life where maybe you’re expending too much energy unnecessarily or maybe you just need a good night’s sleep. It’s ok to take a little break to recharge if necessary.
When you’re overwhelmed, just choose one task and get started. Even taking a tiny step toward your goal is a step in the right direction! If you frequently feel overwhelmed, it may be a sign you need to step back and focus on just one goal at a time, or even one part of a goal.
It’s understandable to feel afraid when working on self-improvement. After all, you may need to make some big changes in your life to get to where you want to be, and change is scary. Luckily, we’ve already covered how to handle the fears that come with achieving your goals on Day 6, so you can always go back to your worksheet from that day to remind yourself that you can conquer this fear.
“Inspiration is the greatest gift because it opens your life to many new possibilities. Each day becomes more meaningful, and your life is enhanced when your actions are guided by what inspires you.” - Bernie Siegel
Tomorrow is the final day of my 10 Days to Your Best Year Ever program. The last step is to make a plan to Implement all that we have talked about in the previous days.
